Moving asylum seekers 4,000 miles from the UK to Ascension Island would be a “logistical nightmare” and not well received by residents, a member of the island’s council has said.
Alan Nicholls’s comments came after it was reported that Priti Patel, the home secretary, had ordered officials to explore “inhumane” plans to process asylum seekers on a remote volcanic island in the South Atlantic.
